Hi. I am writing a paper for my Ethics class regarding the headscarf ban in various European countries. For this paper I need to do interviews and get quotes, so I'd really appreciate it if any members of this community have an opinion regarding the ban could speak to me? French citizens or credible academics preferred.

(Yes, I am allowed to use the Internet to conduct interviews for this assignment.)

If you have the time, please do get back to me with your opinions, I'd appreciate it so much. If you'd like me to contact you some other way, just leave your email address in a comment and I'll send you an email.

I really need help with this, so please reply!

Thanks so much,

I am turning to you with a question.

I am a young women raised in western society. I have grown up in a christian family but have never practised any religon - I am not a muslima and I don't see myself becoming one as I cannot find believe in the trascendent in my heart.

But I have a few freinds who are muslims and so I have some connection to islam. I have long since been facinated with hijabs and the way muslimas dress. I would like to wear a hijab as well because I like what they represent and that they put more importance on what is inside me than on what I look like.
This is what I am asking you: Do you think I can wear a hijab without being a muslima?

Please let me know what you think.
Thank you

25 Steps To Being Closer To Allah

1. Start off each day with 'adhkaar al-istiyqaadh' (waking up Supplications), thanking Allah for waking up in good shape.

2. Put Allah first in your life.

3. Broaden your horizons - learn 5 new verses from the Quran every day, travel to pray far in the mosque to brighten your day, take up a booklet having supplications and read them.

4. Pray Salaat Al-dhuhaa (after sunrise).

5. If someone says something mean ;to you, just shrug it off and dismiss it in a friendly, laidback manner, and pray that Allah shall forgive them.Read more...Collapse )

Hello sisters,
So I had time to make this tonight, I’m not sure what material it is, but its not the softest, maybe after a good washing and ironing it will be okay, as I just got it today and started to sew on it. Anyhow, here are some picture of what I will call the flower hijab lol it’s similar it a lot of ways to the amira/princess one, but also like the square. From the material left over from cutting the semicircle I am going to make a niqab just to slide over the front of my face with a thing elastic black band. There is a lot of movement with this hijab, you can just wear it with the clip, I don’t have those cute plastic pins yet, or you can do that pining to the side of the head action, and then like just adjust to make that quick niqab cover, however, like I said I am going to make a separate add on.

Reminder, I am not an expert at sewing and the sewing you do see on the pictures is work in progress :)

If you have any suggestions, please toss them my way :) see you all later Insha’Allah.

i discovered "semicircular" hijabs for little kids which* required a tieback, but i modifed it to fit adults and its doable, like really doable... i love it, just made one right now from my practice fabric i have and i cannot say how much i like this less fabric hijab. i dont have to deal with the table runner one or the huge turkish square, i like the fact that i am avoiding all the extra fluff that happens under my chin and i only have to use 1 safefy pin, which i plan to decorate. its fabric efficient, reduces multiple pins in the hair and will cost me less at fabric stores to buy! :) now i all i need is to make a pattern of this and to select ribbon borders tomorrow. amazing, alhamdulillah, that i have a minor gift for improvising and artsy craft stuff :-D i wearing it right now, its that comfortable.

edit: ****so i actually did feel like drawing lol here is the link to the drawing. see what you made me do at ~6am? lol****

im not sure if you had read this before, but i saw it on the "Hijab ~ The Symbol of Modesty" group im a part of in orkut.com and it reads as follows, its totally cute :)

You look at me and call me oppressed,
Simply because of the way I'm dressed,
You know me not for what's inside,
You judge the clothing I wear with pride
My body's not for your eyes to hold,
You must speak to my mind, not my feminine mold,
I'm an individual, I'm no mans slave,
It's Allahs pleasure that I only crave
I have a voice so I will be heard,
For in my heart I carry His word,
"O ye women, wrap close your cloak,
So you won't be bothered by ignorant folk"
Man doesn't tell me to dress this way,
It's a Law from God that I obey,
Oppressed is something I'm truly NOT,
For liberation is what I've got
It was given to me many years ago,
With the right to prosper, the right to grow
I can climb moutains or cross the seas,
Expand my mind in all degrees
For God Himself gave us LIB-ER-TY
When He sent Islam,
To You and Me...
